How advances in healthcare technology can shift support, monitoring and care from hospitals to community settings”.
Led by Dr Matthew Burns (UU), with support from Dr Ruth Gray (Quality Improvement and Innovation SEHSCT) this workshop explores the growing demand within Health and Social Care (HSC) for technology‑enabled care that supports patients closer to home. This includes interventions that help prevent disease escalation and avoid hospital admission, step‑down care that supports patients as they transition out of hospital treatment and back into their homes, and managing chronic conditions to avoid the need for emergency and unscheduled care. In responding to this demand, there is emerging research and technologies that could create digital and technical solutions, moving care closer to home and providing real-time health monitoring & intervention. The realities behind innovation will also be a focus of conversation, highlighting common mistakes in ethics applications for research and product development, and how to avoid them.
The session brings together the demand for solutions with the emerging researchers and companies developing solutions. Research funding is available after the “Sandpit” to take ideas from research to impact on Belfast and Beyond.
