Doc Abode is a digital platform that enhances urgent community care by matching clinician availability and location with patient needs in real-time. Developed by a GP, the team at Doc Abode have a thorough understanding of the pressures placed upon community care services. Throughout its development, Doc Abode has received support from SBRI Healthcare and from the NHS Innovation Accelerator.
By optimising workforce allocation, Doc Abode helps NHS services reduce unnecessary A&E attendances and shift demand from 999/111 into Urgent Community Response (UCR) pathways.
Integrated with Single Point of Access (SPoA) and UEC hubs, Doc Abode enables NHS providers to coordinate care more efficiently, improving productivity and optimising resources in urgent community pathways. This frees up capacity to manage increased demand outside of hospitals, improves patient flow, reduces non-elective Occupied Bed Days (OBDs), and alleviates pressure on emergency departments, contributing to a more resilient and responsive healthcare system.
Deployed across Central and North West London, Doc Abode’s solution has seen impressive results in diverting category three and four 999 calls to their platform; reducing A&E attendance; and responding to patients in a more timely manner. An independent health economic evaluation also demonstrated that through the use of Doc Abode’s solution there is a return on investment of £5 for every £1 spent.
Speakers in the session will include:
Dr Neville Young, Director of Enterprise and Innovation, Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber.
Jack Porter, Co-Director, NHS Innovation Accelerator.
