FAN Fellowship and Leadership Accelerator for Mobilising Early-Career AMR Researchers (FLAME)
FAN FLAME is designed for early-career researchers (ECRs) working on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) who are preparing to develop their first grant or fellowship application. The programme supports researchers with a clear research idea who would benefit from protected writing time, structured feedback, and targeted mentoring to move their proposal towards a near-submission-ready stage.
Programme overview:
Submit your EOI
FAN FLAME – Expression of Interest (EOI) – Fill out form
Deadline for submission: 16 February 2026 (10:00 GMT)
Sandpit format
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to present their proposal during the online sandpit using the following format:
3 slides
6-minute presentation
4 minutes of structured Q&A
The presentation should clearly outline:
The research problem and its relevance to antimicrobial resistance
The core idea and proposed approach
Intended funder or scheme and rationale for fit
Motivation for applying to FAN FLAME, and how participation in the retreat would support progression of the proposed application
Support to reduce barriers to participation
Accommodation costs for the in-person retreat will be covered by FAN for selected participants
A limited number of UK travel bursaries (up to £250) will be available for selected participants
Formal invitation and visa support letters will be issued for selected international participants, where required
Childcare support bursaries will be available to enable in-person participation for selected participants
Kindly note:
Participation in FAN FLAME is stage-gated: submission of an EOI does not guarantee invitation to the online sandpit, and participation in the sandpit does not guarantee selection for the residential retreat.
Selection will be competitive and based on readiness, clarity of the proposed idea, alignment with FAN FLAME objectives, and the applicant’s motivation and capacity to benefit from the programme.
EOIs submitted by email will not be considered. Late submissions will not be accepted unless exceptional circumstances are clearly justified.
