Revolutionising Patient Care

Belfast based TriMedika was born from a shared vision between Roisin Molloy and Julie Brien, determined to revolutionise patient care and recognising the limitations of traditional thermometers, particularly regarding infection control and efficiency, they set out to develop a more innovative solution.

Their inspiration stemmed from a core principle to improve healthcare delivery through cutting-edge medical technology. After seeing her sister being constantly disturbed whilst undergoing treatment in hospital, Roisin went home and wrote the business plan. This dedication led to the creation of TRITEMP™, a non-contact infrared thermometer designed specifically for the demands of hospital settings.

Roisin is a biochemist with over 25 years’ experience in medical products, research & development at companies including Pfizer, Randox, and Andor. As a DWEN alumni member, she has been shortlisted for the prestigious EY Entrepreneur of the Year in 2021 and selected as Maserati Top 100 Disruptor in 2017. Roisin is passionate about how science and technology can solve everyday healthcare problems and make patients’ lives better. She is a keen advocate for females in STEM projects and volunteers in female schools to promote entrepreneurship. Most recently, Roisin attended the United Nations General Assembly as a key speaker on digital health transformation.

Overall, despite challenges, Northern Ireland has provided a solid foundation for TriMedika’s growth. The access to skilled talent, government support, and the position of being the only region in the world able to trade goods freely with both the GB and EU markets have been crucial factors in their success.

“At TriMedika, our primary focus is on developing and supplying innovative medical technology that streamlines healthcare delivery. While we currently offer the TRITEMP™ non-contact thermometer, it represents a significant leap forward in patient care & comfort. The TRITEMP™ offers a variety of benefits to hospitals, including:

  • Infection Control: Non-contact readings minimize the risk of cross-contamination, promoting a safer environment for both patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Efficiency: Temperature readings are obtained quickly and effortlessly, freeing up valuable time for nurses and other medical staff.
  • Accuracy: TRITEMP™ delivers reliable temperature readings comparable to traditional methods.
  • Cost Savings: Eliminates the need for disposable probe covers, reducing waste and ongoing supply costs.
  • Durability: The TRITEMP™ is built to withstand the demands of a busy hospital setting.

Traditional thermometers have limitations. They can be inconvenient, require frequent replacement, and pose a potential risk of cross-contamination,” said Roisin.

The TriMedika Solution identified the need for a more efficient and hygienic way to measure temperature in hospitals. TRITEMP™, the non-contact thermometer, eliminates these issues by offering a contactless reading method without the need for plastic probe covers.

“We are on track to roll-out our TRITEMP™ Gen 2 in 2024 – this will be a connected device, bringing us even further into the future, allowing hospital & community staff to stay connected.

“We have recently launched our new e-commerce platform TriMedika Store Page | Trimedika and you can find out more at www.trimedika.com, on Linkedin at https://www.linkedin.com/company/trimedika-limited/  or on Youtube at https://youtu.be/IE6wyUsmyvA?si=_5nsZKDG_O5W9mns.”
